An Apple spokesperson confirmed the news to tech site TechCrunch in a statement.
Apple's manufacturing partner Foxconn will manufacture the new version of the iPhone at its own factory in Sriperambudur, near Chennai. However, the Pro version of the iPhone 14 will not be manufactured there.
"We are delighted to begin production of iPhone 14 in India," an Apple spokesperson told TechCrunch.
Apple has been manufacturing iPhones in India since 2017. However, earlier versions of the iPhone were manufactured in Indian factories. And this time the iPhone 14 will be unveiled this month.
Market analysts estimate that Apple will make India a global iPhone manufacturing hub by 2025. Basically, the company is taking this step to reduce its dependence on China. For more than a decade, the majority of the company's devices have been manufactured in China.
Analysts at investment firm JP Morgan said in a report earlier this month that Apple wants to bring 5 percent of global production of iPhone 14 models to India by the end of 2022 and 25 percent of all iPhone models by 2025.
TechCrunch reports that India has attracted Apple's manufacturing partners Foxconn and Wistron to invest in the local market with subsidies in recent years. New Delhi is working towards turning the country into a 'manufacturing hub'.
